Journalists use Amazon to uncover profile of “serial killer”

We’ve become used to Journalists combing through Twitter and facebook for insights and material for news reports, but yesterday night was the first time I’ve seen the Amazon profile of an alleged serial killer uncovered, and reported as possible evidence of a predisposition to commit crime.

A man was charged in the case of a series of murders in Bradford this evening.

By the time of the 7’o clock news Channel 4 news had found what they believed to be his wishlist on Amazon, revealing a long list of books and films dealing with murder and crime.

No only is it a salient example of how much of our personality we leave on the various profile-based sites we interact with, but it’s also a really interesting example of how investigative journalists are finding new ways of sourcing information.
